…oh yeh and I’m glad I did!!..
I bought these at the start of December with my Birthday money as early Christmas presents to me! They arrived today all the way from “sunny” England..
I bought them on Etsy from the lovely Caroline of The Shepherds Hut UK.. on Instagram she’s @cjpfibres
I have to say this isn’t the first time I’ve bought from Caroline and wont be the last!.. love them all so much!
left to right
Sunshine Mellow – Rambouillet, Cabbage Patch – BFL, Acorn Yellow – Finnish, Red Leaves – Rambouillet, Lemon & Lime – Superwash Merino/Nylon
The left skein is made from fibres named milky way and silky oats. Both spun and 2 plyed together. I popped a pic of Milky Way on here two posts back..
Silky oats is a bfl & tussah silk blend.
This skein is more of a grey colouring compared to my far right skein which was made with fibres milky way and camelot
That skein has more brown in it because there is more baby camel fibres in it.
Camelot fibre consisted of baby alpaca, baby camel, super fine merino and tussahsilk..both skeins are so soft.
oh and piggy in the middle of my photo is a mish mash skein of assorted coloured fibre singles I 2plyed😉
Happy New Year – see you in 2019!
I’ve purchased a beautiful merino fleece from a farmer in Tasmania. I want to spin up some of this fleece to gift to a friend at work as she’s just become a grandmother for the first time and she’s thinking of knitting her grandchild some winter woolies.
She knows I’m a spinner and has said she’ll buy some yarns from me, but I’ll give her the yarns for free as I know she’ll appreciate it.
This is a beautiful fine coloured coated merino fleece, white with smoky grey and light grey speckles.
I only purchased 700g but I’m also gifting 200g of this to another overseas spinner I met through Instagram.
I dont think she’s ever spun fleece before and I want her to have a great experience spinning with a lovely fleece as theres nothing worse when learning to spin fleece and getting a dirty matted fleece and having to spend hours cleaning and flicking it before even starting to spin it.
If I have to spend time cleaning a fleece then I dont even buy it. I dont mind dirt on the tips but lifes too short to waste time on crappy dirty fleeces especially when there are farmers who sell beautiful coated fleeces that I can buy, flick and spin as soon as I get it.
Last night I plyed up this natural coloured wool free combed top named “milky way”..its a luxury blend of Baby Camel, Suri Alpaca, Soy Fibre, Milk Protein and Black Diamond..
I plyed it with a braid of BFL & Tussah Silk named Silk Oats, both fibres were from catandsparrowfibres.
I’ll reskein the dried yarn & put a pic on here tomorrow.
I’ve got at least 100g of Milky Way singles left on my bobbin so tonight I’m spinning another natural coloured fibre named Camelot.
It consist of super fine merino, baby alpaca, baby camel and tussah silk. I’ll ply these two and post pics soon xx
ugggh I’ve come down with a cold and it started just before this Finke long weekend here in the Territory, which is a total bummer as I’ve spent the past two days mostly asleep in bed!
I knitted a beanie from my handspun yarns..its grey alpaca fleece and dyed black merino top.
I gifted it to one of the butchers I work with as it’s his first Finke race that he’s going too as he’s from New Zealand..
He loves it but I only have a pic of me wearing it for you..
just a basic 3×1 rib beanie..
I’ve started on another beanie with some of this leftover grey alpaca handspun and some dyed pink handspun merino to make a hat for me that I’ll wear when I’m at the Beanie festival in July..
To all my Facebook friends I permanently set the account for deletion as I hardly use it anymore.
I’m mainly on Instagram or popping on here…ok bye!
this is 50/50 merino bamboo plyed with merino.. plying and soaking the 3rd and last skein tonight..then I’ll post pics of the 3 fibres used and all 3 yarns together..
slack me forgetting to update my little blog as usual.. but if you want to see my handspun yarns don’t forget to pop over to my Instagram page it’s spinning_scribbles on there too..👌😊
this is 70/30 merino silk blend with 50/50 merino bamboo
this one I’m plying up today is 70/30 merino silk with 100% merino..seeya soon!
I’m all settled into my new apartment. The garden has been planted out with various seeds I found in the garden shed and I’m happy to say some of them are already sprouting! .. I’ve just gone outside and noticed more varieties have come up overnight so I can’t wait to pick these herbs and vegetables.
I’m making mini beanies for the beanie festival that will be held in town at the end of June. I’m making them with my leftover handspun yarn. I’ll keep making them until I run out of my leftovers.
I’m going to give them all to my girlfriend who has her own art studio and she can sell them to the tourists that visit her store.
Happy New Year!.. I’ve made quite a few resolutions to myself for this year and one of them is to do a blog post everyday.
These are the merino and tussah silk and merino silky rose fibre single bobbins that I plyed today. I never ended up plying them on Christmas Eve so today I wanted to get this yarn done so I can now start a new spin for 2018.
Last night while doing some spinning I popped on the movie Moana. It was the first time I’d seen it as I bought the DVD a few days ago. 💚 Loved it!
….. and I loved the way the colours in these merino/ tussah silk and merino / silky rose fibres spun up too.
I’ll ply them both later tonight after dinner.
