I spun up these blue green fibres over the weekend. The blue is called Lightening – its 70% merino and 30% bamboo from Cat and Sparrow fibres, the green is called Green Jersey its 100% Shetland from The Shepherds Hut.
I’m making this yarn for a friend at work. I’m hoping it doesn’t have the barber pole effect too much when I ply it.
I also noticed on my Instagram last night that the first yarn I finished on January 1st 2018 was also made with blue and green fibres!
I’ve purchased a beautiful merino fleece from a farmer in Tasmania. I want to spin up some of this fleece to gift to a friend at work as she’s just become a grandmother for the first time and she’s thinking of knitting her grandchild some winter woolies.
She knows I’m a spinner and has said she’ll buy some yarns from me, but I’ll give her the yarns for free as I know she’ll appreciate it.
This is a beautiful fine coloured coated merino fleece, white with smoky grey and light grey speckles.
I only purchased 700g but I’m also gifting 200g of this to another overseas spinner I met through Instagram.
I dont think she’s ever spun fleece before and I want her to have a great experience spinning with a lovely fleece as theres nothing worse when learning to spin fleece and getting a dirty matted fleece and having to spend hours cleaning and flicking it before even starting to spin it.
If I have to spend time cleaning a fleece then I dont even buy it. I dont mind dirt on the tips but lifes too short to waste time on crappy dirty fleeces especially when there are farmers who sell beautiful coated fleeces that I can buy, flick and spin as soon as I get it.
I’ve finally got a finished skein of yarn to share…the fibre I showed two posts ago well it’s taken me forever to get it spun due to everyday life getting in the way…
this yarn was meant to be coils and when it came time to ply I completely forgot to ply the way my spinoff 2009 magazine showed me, so now my coils are what I like to call witchettygrubs😂🤣 …oh well its plyed and balanced so I’m sure someone will love it and buy it at the 2019 beanie festival…
Tonight I’ll get out some more fibre & my copy of The spinners book of yarn designs and try some of the yarn ideas in it as I’m thinking of making more art style yarns coming into this new year..
I’ve turned into the type of spinner that buys all these gorgeous fibres and then doesn’t have enough time on the weekend to ACTUALLY spin them!..
So no more wasting most of my weekend on Instagram..because I spend a heck of a lot of time looking at spinning, knitting, crochet, weaving etc that other fibre artists out there post.
So what did I buy… I bought some gorgeous handdyed fibres from The Shepherds Hut ..some are shetland and some are merino/bamboo..
Love em..now to spin them!
I’ve dug through my stash and decided tonight I’ll start spinning up these two braids of NZ Merino that I bought on Etsy from Heavenlywools.co.nz ..I think they’ll look good when plyed together..
this yarn was spun with my catandsparrow fibre club rolags some finnx fleece from kathys fibres and merino I dyed…
next up I’ve bought more fibre from New Zealand from the lovely Heavenly Wools…I’ll post the fibre breeds and names when I spin them.. Have a great Sunday!✌💛
my haunui fibre purchased from heavenlywools.co.nz came today!!😁… I just love the colours and the fibres are fairyfloss soft!😍..
I’m going to get the wheel set up and have a quick spin tonight.. this fibre is a new spin for me and so far I love the feel of it! 😍..
The left braid is 23.7micron in the colourway Bollywood dyed on a charcoal base..the other is 26 micron in the colourway Cindis dyed on dark moorit base..
I spun and plyed this yarn yesterday..it’s gold orange/red and brown dyed finnxcorriedale/romney fleece.. I’m pretty happy with how squishy it is.. It’s 185grams, 123 meters 7wpi so it’s chunky.
….This yarn is actually day 9.. it’s another braid of Polwarth/Pearl 75/25..spun on two bobbins and then plyed…
It’s 10/11 wpi and 163 meters, 95grams.
Finally I have daylight and time to post a pic of my first finished yarn for TDF 2018. Heres Lucinda.. she measures 220.5meters, 12 to 13 wpi, weighs 90grams.
I 2plyed from 2 bobbins, one bobbin still has some single leftovers on it so I’ll add that in the next braid of this same fibre colourway that I spin, but I’m going to prep the next one different before spinning it.
This is one bag of Finn x Corridale/Romney fleece that I was prepping for Tour de Fleece, but I decided to spin it up yesterday as a test run.. It spun up so soft and squishy..
I’ve put the rest of my fleece away as I can’t trust myself not to spin it before the Tour starts..
So tonight instead of continuing on my crochet wave blanket I’ve started on another blanket that Im making with leftover assorted pink and purple yarns.. pics soon.
I just finished knitting this beanie for me to wear to the local beanie festival in July.
I’ve made it with my leftover handspun yarns and just made the pattern up as I went along.
You can wear it as a slouchy beanie or a rolled brim beanie.
Here’s my pattern but you can change how you do the stripes if you want.
My handspun is DK/8ply in thickness.

choose any yarn colours you like..I used pink merino and grey alpaca..
The alpaca I held two strands together when knitting because when I spun this yarn it was more of a fingering weight than a DK weight like the pink merino is.
come to my Instagram @spinning_scribbles to see me in it!😉
